Drive to the Nurburgring via Luxembourg.

________________________________________________

On the way to Luxembourg, due to the heatwave, there were speed restrictions to reduce pollution.

Stopped in Luxembourg, the only parking space was outside a Sex shop. Luxembourg seems very proud of its flag.

After a quick sandwich and drink, I hit the road towards the Nurburgring.

You see many strange place names as you cross Europe, I had to stop and visit this one.

The road to this town from the motorway was fantastic. Mostly flat, no hedges, but many inviting curves and corners, bikers would love it. .

The Hotel was a few miles from the Nurburgring, but comfortable, with good food, drinks and parking.

Although the back of the Hotel did overlook a grave yard.

But now the Nurburgring, it was open to the public for 2 hours today. It had rained but it was still hot and getting hotter

As usual there were a mixture of cars and bikes waiting to go out on the track, even a Germen TV film crew.

Once it opened out went the eclectic selection of vehicles.

I was planning to do three or four laps ( 25 euro per lap ), speeding up as I did more laps.

The first lap was a high speed cruise, keeping out of people way and trying to learn / remember the track.

However about two thirds of the way around the track the ABS starting kicking early, and from then on the car had chronic understeer.

The front tyres had given up. While they had been fine in the Alps, the relatively high speed and temperatures was to much for them.

After a break to let them cool down, I tried another lap but taking it easy on the brakes and cornering. They were still slipping by half way round.

Just as I returned from the second lap a storm broke, thunder, lightning, hail and lots of rain. They closed the track and that was that for the day.

And the moral is, don't try and lap the Nurburgring on Cheap Chinese tyres. Given the cost of a lap it's a false economy not to spend a decent amount of money on tyres.

Below are some of my photos and some taken by trackside photographers.
